Young and old enjoyed sausage sizzles and pony rides Tuesday, August 15th at the opening of the new Boades Park. The event attracted large numbers and was complete with mayoral speech and gold-coin festivities.
Days afterwards, the lawns and new playground are still looking fresh. Joggers and dog-walkers have already been seen using the new space [pictured]. Local dog-owner Emma Chua says she: “is excited to see investment in the community spaces rather than just businesses”.
The park’s opening has often been in doubt, with many council battles over the best use for the land. Discussions about selling the property to developers or a new food court and shopping center plagued the park’s development, but in the end the original proposal emerged victorious.
If these first few days are any indication, Boades Park has a bright future ahead of it.
